The countdown is on! In 2026, BC’s top young freestyle skiers will hit Red Mountain Resort in Rossland for the BC Winter Games, showcasing their skills in Moguls and Slopestyle competitions. This is a once-in-a-lifetime, multi-sport experience packed with energy, teamwork, and big moments you won’t want to miss.
The BC Winter Games are unlike any other event at the provincial level, and there’s plenty to know before you click into your skis. This document will guide athletes, coaches, parents, officials, and fans through everything they need to make the most of the experience. As we’re still in the planning stages, details may change along the way.

ATHLETES
- Age: U16
- Age Description: Athletes aged 13, 14, 15 as of February 27, 2026.
- Zone Team Composition: 6 athletes per zone (3 Male / 3 Female)
- Wildcards: 24 Wildcards
- Maximum Athletes: 72
Eligibility
To be eligible for selection to the BC Winter Games, an athlete must:
- Have an active provincial membership with Freestyle BC.
- Be registered in a Freestyle BC club program.
- Be a member in good standing with Freestyle BC.
- Athletes who have competed in the Canada Winter Games are ineligible to compete in the BC Winter Games in the same sport.
- Athletes who have made finals in a Canada Cup are ineligible to compete in the BC Winter Games.
- Eligible athletes are permitted to attend only one BC Winter Games in the sport of Freestyle.
Athlete Selections
Selection Period: January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2025
- Quota spots will be allocated to the top eligible athletes in FBC’s 2026 BCWG Ranking list for each gender in each zone.
- The 2026 BCWG Ranking will include all relevant Timber Tour, Shred Series and Regional events in the Selection Period.
- Non-ranked athletes may be selected if no other athletes accept their spot.
- All athletes are expected to participate in all disciplines of our sport.
Selected athletes will receive an invite and registration information from Freestyle BC. All selected athletes must commit to their BC Winter Games spot and pay the athlete fee by January 12, 2026
- Parent Tip – External Sport Credits may be available for athletes who qualify for and/or participate in the BC Winter Games. Check out the ‘External Sport Credits’ button above!
Wildcards
- Wildcard spots are allocated to the zones that comprise the most significant percentage(s) of our membership.
COACHES
- One head coach and one assistant coach (one of each gender) per zone.
Eligible coaches may be appointed by the clubs and ‘Zone Rep’ of their respective zone. If required, Freestyle BC may support coach selections. All head coaches, assistant coaches and adult supervisors must meet all prerequisites listed in the ‘BCWG Selection Criteria 2025-26’ document.
Large zone teams (from wildcard athletes) are permitted to bring one additional coach or adult supervisor. The Provincial Advisor must approve additional assistant coach(es) or adult supervisor(s).
Head coaches, assistant coaches, and adult supervisors are required to stay with their athletes in BC Games accommodation and act in a supervisory capacity for the duration of the games INCLUDING the travel to and from the host community
TRANSPORTATION (External Transportation Plan)
Unless you live near the host community, athletes, coaches, and supervisors must use BC Games transportation (bus or air) from their zone pick-up point at no extra cost. Locals are responsible for their own travel (Immediate Vicinity Travel). Independent travel (Own Travel) may be requested with Provincial Advisor approval but can be overridden by sport requirements. The full athlete fee applies regardless of travel method, and participants are responsible for costs and liability under Immediate Vicinity or Own Travel. All participants must get to their pick-up point at their own expense and travel under the supervision of a coach or adult supervisor, as per the BC Games Team Travel Policy.
ACCOMMODATION
All Freestyle Skiing participants are staying at JL Crowe Secondary in Trail, BC.
The BC Games rules requires all athletes to stay in Games accommodation. Coaches and any attending Adult Supervisors are also expected to stay in Games accommodation to supervise their athletes. This ensures that all team members are together and will arrive at their sport venue ready for competition together. It also ensures that everyone has a complete Games experience.
- Parent Tip – You do not have to book or organize anything for your child’s accommodation. This is part of the Games service however, if you wish to attend the BCWG this year to support and cheer on the athletes you should consider booking your own accommodation ASAP!
