FUNdamentalz Coaching Course | Whistler

Goal: Developing fundamental instructional skills for kids in Freestyle Ski programs. Learn teaching progressions of freestyle specific skills and mechanics in: • Mogul skiing skills • Park and Halfpipe skills • Air skills Equipment: Helmet, tuned skis, poles Performance expectations: Demonstrate basic skills in halfpipe, moguls and rails. An assessment is done on the coach candidate. Prerequisites: Active Freestyle Canada membership license. In Managing conflict, you will learn to: identify common sources of conflict in sport; determine which individuals or groups are most likely to find themselves in situations involving conflict; learn important skills that will help coaches prevent and solve conflict resulting from misinformation, miscommunication, and misunderstanding; and develop skills that will empower you to listen and speak effectively in conflict situations while maintaining positive relationships with athletes, parents, officials and other coaches.

In Coaching and Leading Effectively, you will learn to: promote a positive image of sport, and model it to athletes and those supporting their performance; deliver clear messages and explanations when communicating with athletes and their supporters; and identify opportunities to interact with all athletes and use feedback to improve and correct performance and behaviour.
