BC Winter Games Will Not Proceed

January 14, 2022

Jan 27 Press Release

Today the BC Games Society and the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games Society announced that the Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games scheduled for February 24 to 27, 2022 will not take place this year.

Greater Vernon made every effort to stage these Games, however, the ongoing pandemic, coupled with external factors such as wildfires and floods in many parts of our province this past year, have made it impossible to stage a safe and memorable Games this winter.

Games organizers and stakeholders will explore options to see if the region can deliver this multi-sport event in the future, possibly in 2023.

The BC Games Society and Greater Vernon 2022 BC Winter Games Host Society are disappointed to have to make this difficult decision and commiserate with our province’s best young athletes, coaches, and officials who were preparing for this sport development experience.

The BC Games Society will continue to update sport partners on plans going forward. We value our participants, host communities, volunteers, and sport partners, and appreciate your patience as we do our part to support the health and well-being of everyone involved with the Games.

We remain exceptionally grateful for your support and want to recognize how vital your work is to the success of the Games.
