Josh Dueck selected to lead Freestyle BC

August 28, 2018

The Freestyle BC high-performance committee is proud to announce a change in structure that will allow the organization to better serve our clubs and general members.  After significant growth in membership and overall activity, the board of directors has opted for a structure that will better support the delivery of existing programs and create opportunities to explore additional revenue and partnerships.

Mike Apps has been hired as the head coach of the BC Park & Pipe Team. Mike has been working with the BC program for three years prior to being selected as the head coach. In addition to establishing himself as a top technical coach, Mike holds a Masters degree in Kinesiology from UBC. Mike will take the lead in the development and execution of the team’s yearly training plan as well as the integration of strength and conditioning support from the Canadian Sport Institute. Mike is currently working with the BC Team in Whistler.

Supporting Mike as a technical coach for the BC Park & Pipe Team will be Sebastien Berthiaume. Seb has a history of competitive experience with the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club prior to becoming a high-performance coach. Seb is coming back to BC after a year as the Head Coach of the Bow Valley Freestyle Ski Club in Calgary, AB. Seb’s role with Freestyle BC will be split between time on-hill with the Park & Pipe Team and a role as the Manager of Sport Development. When not with the Park & Pipe Team Seb will coordinate the Coach, Judge and Official development program as well as support the Timber Tour Series of events. Seb will start with Freestyle BC on September 4th.

The Freestyle BC high-performance committee has gone through an extensive search to find a suitable candidate to lead the association in the role of Executive Director. We are extremely proud to announce that Josh Dueck will be leading the association starting September 4th. Josh is a former BC Mogul Team athlete that has a long history in the sport as an athlete and coach. Josh is an X-Games Gold medalist, Paralympic gold and silver medalist and the first person to ever perform a backflip on a sit-ski. Get to know a bit more about Josh through this ESPN profile:
