WinSport Canada Cup Highlights
January 12, 2022
After over 16 months of training without competitions, the BC Park and Pipe Team travelled to Calgary for their first Canada Cup. Despite extremely cold conditions and a shortened training period, the competition did not disappoint. Having just hosted the Snow Rodeo, Winsport provided a World Cup level course, and athletes competed in what was arguably the most competitive Canada Cup event ever.
Alec Henderson got off to a hot start on the first day, throwing down the competition’s best trick with a huge switch double 1440 mute grab claiming the gold medal in the men’s big air event.
The next day Caoimhe Heavey held her own in a deep women’s field, placing 4th in women’s slopestyle competing for a switch right 540 safety, right cork 7 safety to a left 360 japan on the shark fin. While on the men’s side, Kai Martin put down a very smooth switch right bio-9, to left double 1260 to a switch left bio-9 on the shark fin, earning himself a well-deserved bronze medal.
Overall, the team is looking in great shape; we have one final tune-up camp in Whistler before kicking off our main competition stretch at the NorAm in Mammoth where we will best compete against a solid American field.
