Athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers all enjoyed one of the most festive, competitive and exciting Freestyle BC events in recent memory.

The Whistler Freestyle Club was an exceptional host that took full advantage of the opportunity after two years of pandemic delays. The result was a strong organizing committee that went above and beyond to ensure all participants felt welcome, included and empowered to perform. We were blessed to have a world class panel of judges and officials, including World Cup and Olympic Judges.

It is no surprise that the venues were world-class, with their mint terrain park and brand new Gemini Mogul Center. Athletes from around the province took full advantage of these venues and put on a powerful and impressive show for the spectators and judges.

However, perhaps the only thing more exciting than the competitions was the insane energy in the iconic Whistler village for the daily awards ceremonies. We were fortunate to have former Freestyle BC athlete Simon D’artois join the celebrations and present the medals to the overall champions.

This event was a powerful reflection of our Freestyle community and the importance of sport for the youth. As Nelson Mandela said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand.”
